Update Number 142: 8th of January 2000
Note: Eed Fitr Saeed. I have realized that the majority of the updates suffer in content. I think it's because with two weekly deadlines, I don't give myself the time and space to think and work more efficiently. I won't update the site next Tuesday and see how it goes. If I am right in my assumptions, I will return to updating the site once a week as I originally did in the past.
Note: If you like Ghassan Saliba, then do check what seems to be his first online website. The site was developed by farid-el-atrache.com's Wassim Noujeim. Saliba worked with the Rahbani brothers in Petra, and then later took the leading roles in Mansour Rahbani's Sayf 840 and Elwasia.

Update Number 140: 1st of January 2000: The first update on the first day of the new millenium
Note: It was disappointing that the LBC didn't show the Las Vegas concert. Maybe the idea was that a lot of people won't be able to see it on new year's eve. There's still a chance that it will be shown soon, maybe on the 7th or 8th of this month to coincide with the Eastern Christmas or Eed Elfitr, maybe before, maybe afterwards.
Year Round-up: Two albums were released, Mish Kayen Hatk Tkoun and Ya Tarra Nessina. Fairuz peformed live concerts in Jordan and the United States. She also participated in the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions with 'Alardo Lakom'. During the last year, most of the events were publicized shortly beforehand, that could also be the case for the new year. It's best to be alerted at all times. The new album and the Las Vegas video, which is supposedly ready, should be released in the first half of the year, and there's also a consistent possibility of a concert in Lebanon.
Note: The picture galleries in the files section are completed (design-wise).

I also wanted to say that I will not update the site this Tuesday. Hopefully I will be able to work more on it this week. See you all back here in the new millennium.

News:Yesterday it's confirmed and today it's denied. Alhayat newspaper printed a story on Friday which sounded like an end to speculations on the film remake of the play 'Hala We Elmalek'. The newspaper read that Julia Boutrous will play Hala, the same role Fairuz played in the play when it was performed in 1967. It went further by saying that after Fairuz declined to play the role back in the early eighties, the producer Nader Elattasy approached Mayada Elhenawy, Majeda Elroumi and Sherihan with the role, but they all refused to play a role that was perviously performed by Fairuz. Well, in today's issue, it's reported that Julia contacted the newspaper and denied that she agreed to any of the three Hala We Elmalek proposals she was offered. It's also worth to note that Julia appeared on television last Tuesday. While she expressed her desire to act in the movies, she denied that there is anything in the works. Lists: Songs List in Arabic. You will need a browser with Arabic support. There seems to be a formatting problem when the page is viewed in Internet Explorer, I will try to fix that. The list is better than the English version, mainly because there is less hassle with the pronunciation and therefore spelling of the song titles.
News Document: Download this article from the 1st of November 1999 issue of Alhayat newspaper. It describes at length the dispute regarding the three songs late Riyad Elsunbati wrote for Fairuz. Elsunbati son found a tape in which Fairuz is rehearsing one of these songs and he wants to release it without Fairuz's consent. Prior to that, he sent her through his lawyer, a warning not to sing or release the songs or else he will file a case against her, which if won will make Fairuz pay $9000 fine and go to prison! I think he has a weak case, but nevertheless, it's ludicrous how this guy and just because he's the composer's son, can get that low. He, obviously money lustful, said that he has postponed releasing the song until he chooses which offer to take. (Download the free PDF Acrobat Reader.)

Update Number 123: 30th of October 1999
Upcoming list: I am currently working on a list of all the songs, much like the one that's currently available in the lists section, this time it's in Arabic. This will give you better search results, and to accomplish that it's going to be made of text, and not gif pictures. That's why you need a browser with Arabic support. I have finished about two thirds of the list and am anticipating that it will be finished by Tuesday. The plays' song lists are also in the works in both Arabic and Latin.

Update Number 117: 9th of October 1999
Note: I searched my head for an answer but found none. Why did I participate in degrading Fairuz? I have no idea. I've always held back from doing so in the past and with similar situations. You maybe asking yourselves as to what am I talking about. Well how about the poll? The one at the Mosiqa site. Why are we even comparing Fairuz to these bands and singers? Do we have any doubts about her absolute greatness? She's a divine gift. A God sent. I can no longer join in this mess. If you want to continue voting there, good luck, but I am removing the link from this page.
Tip: Try double sizing the videos in the real media player. It may look a little fuzzy but you still get smooth motion.

News: It was reported in Alhayat today (Wednesday) that the distorted tape which Hamid Elshaery has just released may be called from the stores. His tape contains eight re-arranged songs originally sung by Fairuz. Elshaery didn't get the rights to make this mess of a tape, and that's why he will either pay a 5000LE (about $1450) fine or get imprisoned if convicted in a court of law. The album which had mixed up credits and the Mish Kayen album's cover, was heavily criticized and was also considered degrading to Fairuz, the Rahbani Brothers, Ziad and Elias Rahbani and Philemon Wehbe. Information on the Videos: vl94td.rm is Tetloj Eldeni from the London 94 concert. The song was originally featured in Aodet Elasker. vsspwt.rm I still haven't constructed the tribute to Philemon Wehbe because I don't have enough sources to write a complete biography so what I did was make this 35 second clip as a temporary tribute. It's mainly pictures fading in and out, but it also contains a ten second video clip of Philemon and Mansour from a scene in Rings for Sale.

Note: There was a ceremony in honor of the late Jean-Pierre Delifer in Baalbeck yesterday. You can still get a glimpse of his work that will continue to be displayed at Mou7tarf Asila for today. Fairuz sumbitted her costumes which Delifer designed for her roles in different musical plays like Loulou and Elmahatta to be displayed in the ceremony. Read more about the passing away of Jean-Paul Delifer as well as the major turning points in his costume designing career in these articles. You need Acrobat Reader to open this PDF document.
Note: The video clips of the LBC report on Fairuz's Las Vegas concert and the CNN Baalbeck report are now permanently available in the concert special pages. They're better in quality than the versions posted before.
Information on the Videos: vlvlbv.rm is the report LBC showed the night Fairuz performed in Las Vegas. It covers the pre-concert preparations. It was done by Rima Rahbani. vbaalcnn.rm is the report CNN showed in their World Beat program. v72a.rm is a short clip from the end of a concert that was held on the 29th of July 1972. I don't have confirmation on that date. The concert was part of an American tour. The clip was shown on the Syrian satellite channel.
